I just “graduated” myself from iMovie to Final Cut, and thought I could figure out my compression settings all over again. The interlacing on my vids, as noticed on yesterday’s Quick and more-dirty-than-I-thought-it would-be Carbonara vid had me running back to FreeVlog after a couple of hours of tinkering hoping there was a compression tutorial for FC, and there was. Thanks be to Ryanne, Verdi and the rest at FreeVlog, and here’s the vid I was testing for a few hours. Do you know the film quoted on the soundtrack? Bonus if you know who remixed it.

I’m actually old enough to remember the WOR and WPIX ones. When was the last time test patterns were used? When did tv start being 24/7? I don’t recall. Leave it to New Orleans to have the weirdest and most ornate pattern.
House of Games! What do I win?
You win the “Jese, that was fast” award.
I am so jealous - you have more test patterns than I do. I love them.
missb rocks. give her a prize. welcome to FCP! you’ll love it because of the freedom of sound editing.
What a treat, and what an amazing collection of test patterns. Much better than the original visual to the soundtrack.
look at that loverly progressive video
congrats on the upgrade iMovie is such a worthless POS. FCP will treat you well.
this clip was quite hypnotic, nice.
great! we used to use patterns like those to line up the cameras when I worked for a broadcaster in late 80s early 90s (old tube cameras - bbc patterns and aus channel patterns though). do u have any footage of the early felix the cat test patterns in the early broadcasts in the US? prior to the mickey mouse ones as I understand it - a friend was wanting to do a music/video project with it. he’s checked archive.org & google.
